The third temperature to consider is the surface temp.  In the summer months a metal surface may be several degrees over what is considered ideal, even though the air temperature is within the 50-80 degree range.  The same is true for a metal building in the winter months.  Metal’s surface is never true to the air temperature.

The fourth temperature is the air and surface temp during the dry time of the applied paint.  Let’s say you paint an exterior surface in October or November.  The air temp during the day may be within range, but you finish painting later in the day and before the paint has had sufficient drying time – the air temp plummets, as does the surface temp.
